It's one of the biggest scams to us the cable companies equipment. Hell cable one's of the biggest scams period. Finally got my mom to buy her own modem/router, buy sling, and drop cable. It's like $130 in savings per month or some wild number like that.
So you'll only need a router. I can vouch for the Asus RT-AC68U. Runs for about $135 on Amazon now. It's been my router since 2016 and hasn't shytted on me ever. Very good coverage too.
I have an old SURFboard modem, and the ASUS AC1900 Dual Band router.
It's highly recommended to get a separate modem and router for better performance. Also, if something goes wrong with an all in one unit you out of both.
