Because he didn't say it takes 18 months to 'tell if it's safe'. He said it'd take 12-18 months to get vaccines against COVID, period, when Trump stated about 3-4 months.​

Wtf? I’ve literally seen the video (and made a thread about it) where he said verbatim exactly what I said. The video was before COVID-19 was even thought about, and being that he was speaking on any vaccine ever made, it applies to the COVID vaccine

Y'all keep asking the same questions over and over again and swear you made a thread where you asked the same question and even posted some video to go with it. The 18 month mark is to ensure that the vaccines don't display antibody dependent enhancement (ADE)

Moderna and Pfizer started their trials back in May 2020 and July 2020 respectively and none of their participants displayed ADE

Ive noticed that while Fauci hasnt been the best at communicating (and his initial mask comments will be held against him forever), people selectively listen to what he says and flat out ignores or denys what they dont like. He gave a real answer. Vaccines initial trials were ran in 2020. We are almost two full years removed from initial trials. Only person who would be alarmed by what he is saying in this video is completely ignoring context.

He didn't say, anywhere, that it takes 18 months to make sure vaccines were 'safe'.

He did say that it would take 12-18 months to know if they had a vaccine they could "use", but that was AFTER trials were completed. Operation: Warp Speed took a lot of the trial time out of the equation by doing trials concurrently rather than consecutively.

It's been 14 months since the vaccines have been available and monitored for safety, however, making your initial assertion moot.​
