There is a distinction to be made between atheism in its pure sense, which describes anyone who does not believe in a god or gods, and New Atheism, the contemporary phenomenon of aggressive disbelief coupled with a persistent persecution narrative. Led by luminaries such as the lateChristopher Hitchens and evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, New Atheism takes as its core creed a species of Enlightenment liberalism that exalts reason and free inquiry, without bothering to define reason or to explain what is worthy of inquiry, and why. For a school of thought that presents itself as intellectually robust, it is philosophically bankrupt and evidently blind to its similarities to the religions it derides.

But this is a persistent problem with the New Atheist movement: Because it is more critical of religion than introspective about its own moral commitments, it assumes there is broad agreement about what constitutes decency, common sense, and reason. Yet in doing so, New Atheism tends to simply baptize the opinions of young, educated white men as the obviously rational approach to complicated socio-political problems. Thus prejudice in its own ranks goes unnoticed.

Dan Dennett is the only one of these guys that are actually worthwhile. I don't agree with some of the stuff he says, but I can respect him.

Hitchens was pretty funny when he was being bytchy.

Dawkins had a few good books back when he stuck to evolutionary biology.

Harris is the worst. Genuinely doesn't know what he's talking about. Got a phd by doing some eh studies in neurobiology and getting his name attached, then doesn't publish anything of note after that. Whenever he tries to write about free will, Dennett completely destroys him.

as long as you're willing to call this a wake-up call for white folks I'm cool

but again…nobody is…so….we're right back to where we started

edit: oh and non-believers always talk about white supremacist groups (especially those in europe)

Americans are fearful of things that they perceive as different. It's only a matter of time before they decide to kill all atheists. Another thing that is important to remember is that Obama's Caliphate will shuffle in a new era of violent repression of atheists and Christians. Many will be martyred.

There are way too many self-proclaimed atheists who don't see the difference and instead of just being secure in their non-belief while at the same time respectful of others who may believe, instead border on being virulently anti-religious.

As an aggressive atheist I would like to see if we can develop robot technology, like the example below, to teach and convert children into atheism

This is a real problem, my son was born Christian and my liberal vegan wife and I, had a very hard time converting him to atheism, very time consuming. We need this tech:wow:
