The Check Hook

After watching the Mayweather Hatton fight
Im realizing that the check hook is the most skillful move you can use in a boxing ring. The way that mayweather used it against Hatton was the most beautiful counter punch I have ever seen inside the ring. The way mayweather sidestep while simultaneously pulling his head back while simultanously countering with his own hook made it so useful. You can simply counter punch any punch (besides hooks to the body) with this technique.
I know I'm dikk eating right now but this is deadass the most skillful technique in boxing history in my opinion.

whenever a fighter throws a right hand it creates a space from the point that the right hand comes out to the point that the right hand can come back that a fighter cant block a left hook with his right glove and thats why we have a check hook over the top of a right hand in boxing.

when a fighter throws a right hand he may throw a left hook because of the way a left hook can be used to reset a fighter back to his stance. emmanuel steward called this a clean up left hook. when you throw a check hook over the top of a right hand try to remember that you can run into clean up left hook.

gonzalez threw about three or four left hooks at the body before that and i think bailey figured out where the next one was going to go. you can see the way he is circling out to his left away from the left hook to take that body shot away.

Breh the people want to know can you throw a check hook with power or just speed and accuracy?

the most important thing for a check hook is making sure you have created enough seperation. other than that a check hook is like any left hook. for power use your hips to pull your arm to give it whip and finish it with your body weight over your right/back leg to give it good follow through.

there is a combo you can throw with your check hook that is really good. its a lot like the right uppercut floyd likes to throw when he takes a right hand on his shoulder. you use the momentum of a right hand a fighter is throwing at you to make that fighter fall onto your uppercut but you dont use a shoulder roll you use a check hook. its very damaging because the check hook dazes you and you dont see the uppercut you are about to fall onto. makes you think you are getting hit from everywhere. furthermore its a good way to score because its two punches to one. that makes it a good thing for young amateur boxers to do because of the amateur scoring system. you see some fighters like keith thurman do it sometimes. roy jones used to do it a lot. it was a go to move throughout his career. heres terry norris hitting brett lally with it

What do you mean by move with the right btw? Move in the direction it travels? Or simply not being planted still when it comes no matter what direction it goes? moving back?

I wanna implement this asap but I struggle with finding the right range of my hooks. usually end up getting left leg kicked when I look for it a lot

when you throw a check hook you are just trying to create seperation from a punch you are trying to counter. you can create seperation with your upper body and/or your feet. to create seperation from a right hand with your feet push off of your front foot and move back with the right hand using the momentum of the right hand to make your opponent fall into your check hook in the same motion. to create seperation from a left hook with your feet just circle out to your left away from the left hook.

when you spar get your sparring partner to throw a few right hands just to judge distance and to read how much seperation you are going to need to create. stay smooth dont force it and pull the chair out from under him and make him fall into your check hook.
