In the last year or so, there have been a few times where planes I've been on have been much, much closer to other planes than I ever recall. Including one time where my plane was flying parallel to another at the same altitude close enough to see the windows on the other plane.
The 1st thing that crossed my mind was "I wonder if ATC is overloaded" so it's interesting to see that called out here.
