Thats the route im taking.
Already graduated just waititng on the test.
What are the limitations?

Will i be able to teach highschool?

No limitations. You can teach from k-12. It's whatever you take the test in. For NC you have to get the coursework and other requirements done in 3 years or you can't teach in NC for three years.

NYC teacher here. I swear to all, I thought about making a thread like this like two days ago. :wow:
Im thinking about going into teaching.

Got a couple of questions.

:patrice:

Will there be opportunities for a teacher to have an affair with a coworker?

Do i have to pack my own lunch?

How often do you have to lie to your students or their parents?

Does the job require drug tests?

Is showing favoritsm for some students frowned upon? Is manipulating students frowned upon?

What are some of the politics of being a teacher/working in a school?
1) Yes. And that's all I'll say about that on here. :ninja:
2) If you're smart you will. Lunch costs add up quickly. I wish I were more diligent and responsible in that regards.
3) About as much as you lie to anyone else about anything else, really.
4) New York City doesn't. And if they did, they'd have an even harder time keeping teachers. Some of the biggest potheads and boozers are chalk jockeys.
5) It kinda is because you never want to be seen as playing favorites, but just like anything else, you can't help the students you gravitate towards. Some of my favorite students remind me of myself or my friends when we were that age. Also when you know a kid has a hard home life, yet always comes in and does the right thing (or even when they don't), you find yourself caring that much more.
6) Politics is everything. I've see and heard of good teachers being run out of schools because they run afoul of the principal. It's just like any other environment. Possibly worse, because shyt ratings can follow you and haunt you.

As a male teacher, you have to distance yourself from female students. Everytime I'm at a school the girls develop a crush on me and I have to ignore it. "Mr. Moore , Keysha likes you!!" :krs: and they always ask for hugs. No touching policy:ufdup: wont have me talking to:sitdown:
Most def. At this point, most female students probably think I'm a dikkhead. Mr. Jughead needs no problems though. I don't even smile at students anymore. They call me Batman because I'm so strict in that regard. Whatever it takes though. :yeshrug:

Yup. Well I taught summer school the summer before I started at a high school here. For a few years I was a substitute then a teacher's aid in Michigan. Also went through tntp while doing summer school. They train you on the teach like a champion techniques. It's similar to teach for America.

But ultimately yes, I started in August after I passed the tests and did tntp

There are some takeaways from it though.
Most of them are common sense things though. The others are techniques that if not ingrained in the culture of your school will have kids looking at you like :dahell:

I would like to teach high school biology or some kind of science class like heath or environmental science in California. I'm talking the CBEST at the end of the month and I have to take the CSET in order to teach science in California.
