Do you know what "ostensibly" means? Why would the trees claim the axe handle if it was clear that he held no allegiance to them? :leostare:

ostensible[ o-sten-suh-buhl ]
adjective
1. outwardly appearing as such; professed; pretended: an ostensible cheerfulness concealing sadness.
2. apparent, evident, or conspicuous: the ostensible truth of their theories.

They're not claiming the wood, just pointing out irony.

I guess that's open to interpretation, not that clearcut in my opinion :ehh:

I would like to see who can come up with a short essay explaining this quote, and how it affects society. YOUR society.

"When the Axman enters the woods, the Trees say 'the handle is one of us' "

I got a $15 iTunes GC in my wallet that I don't need.

The trees are c00ns.

"When the Axman enters the woods, the Trees say "the handle is one of us" is an example of symbolism. The wood of the Axman's handle fools the trees into thinking they share solidarity with the handle. Little do the trees know that the handle is a mere tool of the axman to be used to destroy the trees as we know them and potentially transform the remaining wood into new handles.

This phenomenon in the context of this essay could be applied to the fate of Blacks. Blacks of course standing in for the trees and handle, the Axman for White society and the Blade for the White power structure. Although I definitely understand what the author is trying to convey I can't help but disagree with the implied pessimism.

Black people, the trees, are more adapt at spotting the "handles" then ever before in this modern age. That is not to say the "Axman" is no longer strong and dangerous. But the trees are slowly but steadily growing to be powerful Treants, whom are more capable and wise then the unmoving tree. These Treants will plant their roots deep and grow to incredible heights and similar to the sequoia, they may take a while to reach their maximum potential but when they do it will be a site to behold.

Just a little something I threw together right quick. You can keep the card.

Does anyone agree with this?

Im riding with your first paragraph absolutely. But slow down there, ol chap. That "You can keep the card" smugness got me laughing, but Im not really in tune with your last paragraph. Or the fact that it a pessimist statement/quote.

This seems like rare civility on your part.:ehh: Although I admit I'm not always the the model of civil discourse myself.

And if I sound smug it's because I'm sure no one else is going to participate in your thread properly.

The axe wouldn't work without the handle?

I say the axeman's whole job is to cut down the trees with or without using one of the their own.

Cacs is using chainsaws outchea

The beef should be with the axeman.

Can I get that latest Beyonce with $15?
