This elastane/spandex trend in jeans needs to stop. Jeans wear out so much faster.

People say the price of consumer goods have come down since the 90s and 2000s, but so has the quality.

My dad has some old Gap jeans from the mid 2000s and the quality was phenomenal

Agreed. In addition to less quality, "knee shapes" (from sitting) begin to embed themselves. Wife often praises Gap's quality.
