Here is something that Hollywood refuses to accept.
Women alone cannot make a movie a success unless it’s a very niche film like Barbie that all generations will see.
Women go to the movies with MEN!!! No man I know wanted to see The Color Purple. No women I know wanted to see it either for that matter but point remains people mostly go to movies on dates. A woman will sit thru some shyt her man wants to see but it’s rare it happens the other way around. My wife knows I’m not sitting thru no misandrist shyt or no gay corny CAC shyt.

Just to be fair, the musical was extremely successful for years touring all over the country. They didn't just come up with this out of thin air.

We got Tubi for the mid and trash cinema. No need for major studio backing for most of these stories

Maybe that or Get Out...Yeah we haven't even had a classic hood movie probably since Paid In Full and that was an Indie over 20 years ago.
This movie was going to flop regardless don’t blame Taraji lol. The Color Purple doesn’t resonate with this generation of women. Nobody wanted to see this sad ass movie during the holidays, and new year’s season. Black men wasn’t interested in this bs, and the movie’s budget was too high. Much respect to all the black talent in this movie tho. But some black people just aren’t interested in these kinds of stories anymore.
