I really enjoyed this episode, I never really knew much about John Forte. I remember hearing his name on Wyclef verses and production notes, but then listened to his cd, I think it was called Poly-Sci, at a record store once and didn't like it. I want to listen to I, John since lately I have been listening to more much music and music with depth as I approach my 30s.

I also enjoyed listening to the movie-like way Forte got involved in drug running then served a lengthy prison term from coming from an ivy league background. The Fugees are an interesting group, I listened to the champs podcast about a year or so ago and Pras was just as an engaging. It was a blend of highly educated, African-American youth who felt disenfranchised in one way or another and each crafted a lengthy and interesting narrative.

Suprised that so many dont know about Forte like that here. He was there with DMX, Pun, Mic Geranimo, Canibus, Mos etc December 1997 discussing & doing the cypher. Dude been around. Dude played a big part in Rawkus Records too & always had dope features, dope album & always spoke like this. This is why i respect him.

As far as what you said - that's unfortunately most people especially from urban enviroment, no matter in which country you live. About 10-20% actually live a life because they've been affected mentally & are mentally scared, while the rest is just fitting it, survival of the fittest, gotta do this in order to live around the way type stuff. As for Fugees, they were all haitians & stuff like that. As yall know at the time there were some haitian street dudes holding stuff down in between the industry & the street - for various reasons, but that's a different story - & that's where groups like Fugees come. When will yall ever realize that artist are always being used? Sometimes its labels, sometimes its drug dealers in order to wash money or whatever. No matter who it is. That plays a MAJOR ROLE in who gets popular at a certain time & things of that nature. But thats a whole nother story.

Fugees was around in the early 90s. I mean Lauryn was in damn movies before Fugees blew up like they did in 1996. Yeah sometimes its about records but aloooot of the times timing, the situations at hand & stuff like that plays a part. I know its mad confusing what i mean lol but im really tired of breaking it down but people gotta judge music by just music, but most dont.

Stop playing. You sound mad young b.

No sir I'm a grown ass man with a wife, 2 kids, a house and a good job. I wasn't trying to throw shade or take a shot if that's how you took it. I was just asking because I haven't seen you post as much in the show threads recently and as someone who has repped thecoli on your show if you would of been pissed about the 2pac thread I wouldn't blame you.

Anyway I'm a supporter of the show and salute you guys for the run you have been on this year :salute:

black love, unity, and music
this episode was particularly excellent. Forte's life is honestly the stuff of legend. I'm actually a huge fan of his first solo album poly sci. Still a dope record to this day to me.

Didn't really get that intellectual vibe from dude, he used a lot of big words, but he didn't really say anything. Jack articulated Forte's point better than he could.

Seemed like whenever Jack brought up some of the racial stuff, he did his best to dance around it, and quickly segued into some faux intellectual ramblings.

Dude came across, at least to me, kinda corny, and never got the vibe that he was ever a Hip-Hop fan
