:whoa: Jamie Foxx over Martin, that's probaly a first......Jamie Foxx wuz definitly funny but he basically carried the show and u coulda plugged anybody in to play those other characters.....Martin carried his show too obviously but the chemistry Martin had with his cast is in a whole different league.....its way too many classic bits from Martin that EVERY black person remembers....u can say shyt like "remember on Martin when......." and everybody will know what u talkin bout before u finish:obama:...all the classic characters,David Allen Grier as the crooked preacher:ohlawd:...bruh man, hussleman, the gay almondy dude, jerome,mr otis,shanaenae....I'm sorry it ant even close......outrageous comedy don't always turn into classic bits

"That ain't no damn puppy!:damn:"

And :snoop: I feel dumb as hell that I didn't connect South Central wuz from the same creator as Moesha cuz that shyt wuz extra familiar, from the music,I think they hangout spot wuz the sme place, and Hakeem damn near played the same person he played on South Central on Moesha...yea I think south central woulda been a classic tho, hard to say in the limited time but every episode wuz great.

And yea the Denise seasons of Different world wuz wack,Dwayne Wayne pretty much is the only reason to watch and Whitley, throw Sinbad in there too....I'm glad they switched the Ron Johnson character up from bein a nerd who added nuthing to bein one of the best characters on the show.

im not gonna say that the jamie foxx show was better, but i prefer to watch it over martin. i was a fan of martin's show but i wasnt into it on a goat level like most other people were(not saying i was into jamie foxx on that level either). plus, martin was a blueprint for jamie foxx' show. another reason why i give the nod to martin. but i'd rather watch jamie foxx personally.

i think most people dont realize that south central & moesha were from the same creators. prolly because the shows were on different stations and 2 years apart. and you know 2 years felt like 10 back then since there was so much going on and things were moving rapidly. i didnt realize it until tv-one brought "south central" back, and i think somebody on sohh brought it to my attention.

Love Fresh Prince but it was still pure sitcom formula. It was the best of the formulaic 90s though.

Cosby was different. You're hard pressed to find a sitcom formula episode. He put a lot of people on. He actually confronted issues so well that most on this thread don't even realize it. Can't overlook his deliberate celebration of black excellence. He didn't just talk about being a part of movements. He had the real people there. They often talked about real black history and happenings. And he made sure to celebrate the music and artists. I don't think many appreciate what we have in that show.

this is actually true about the cosby show on the low.

i tend to forget how much i learned from that show, as well as the feeling of "black excellence" that it gave off without being blatant about it.

Bumping this as A Different World and Cosby Show are on TVOne right now.

That show actually covered a lot of issues but they were issues everyone dealt with: Theo and dyslexia, Denise not knowing what she wanted to do with her life, Sammy Davis Jr. having that guest appearance as the old man that couldn't read etc.

A Different World addressed issues that were specific to black people (after the 1st season once Debbie Allen took over) while Cosby addressed issues that could be applied to anyone.

Fresh Prince was better with dark-skinned Aunt Viv though. It's not the actresses but rather the writing. She goes from being a borderline professional dancer and professor to being a housewife with no hint of the same skill set.

As for Cosby, rewatching it now.....Rudy was a spoiled brat.

Sondra was the high achiever and put pressure on Denise to match her. That's why Denise kept floundering until she met Martin.

Theo struggled in school because of dyslexia but his parents always thought he was a slacker until he got diagnosed in college. Didn't get into trouble THAT much.

Vanessa....seemed like she was almost forgotten about at times. More mature than either Denise or Rudy. Always seemed like she resented Rudy.

Rudy....once she got a little older in the last 2 or 3 seasons, she stayed getting in trouble.....stealing dry cleaner money for one.
