As of February 2015, the US national unemployment rate sat at 5.5%.

Of course, those rates are higher in some states than others.

surely you realize heartland states have lower employment largely due to having smaller, older populations. And look at those southern states...

yep not even comparable when you look at a state like cali and kansas for example.
