there's a reason snoop is an international legend and even wiggers in europe all the way to asians in Japan can recite most of the lyrics to the songs on doggystyle word for word by heart. Hell, I'd say there's more Europeans familiar with the the lyrics to "Gin n juice" than to the "Star Spangled Banner".

of course doggy style was bigger. it was a lot of factors that helped it mores than no one can do it better. The fact that dre's popularity was a million times bigger at that point he introduced snoop than when when he was producing with nwa. snoop had been featured on huge singles from dre before his release, the doc was never featured on nwas singles. The spit up with dre and ruthless and nwa was a big deal and the fact that dre and the doc was helping him create doggy style was a big deal and lets not forget the infamous murder charge that snoop beat around that time. Now I'm not hating because snoop more than delivered and exceeded expectations but as a body of work i just prefer no one can do it better

doggystyle wasnt shyt but snoop version of the chronic...

snoop can never carry a whole album like doc did..

why when i heard cats back in the gap..cry about a snoop album produced entirely by dre...i laughed..because snoop could never do shyt on his own...

he was perfect because anything dre threw at em..he ate it..with precision ..n didnt really need to cuss...or be super lyrical

yeah, i remember the d.o.c. sayin' that dr. dre once told him he (the d.o.c.) is the best to ever have rapped over his beats

the d.o.c. just had all the elements of a perfect emcee. that's what makes the formula such a special music video because the frankenstein imitation and the elimination of the fake emcees who were tryin' to be the next be thing just really goes to show you how gifted one can be when they are

the d.o.c.'s role in helpin to craft in both the chronic and doggystyle are very significant. it gets overlooked but the d.o.c. contributions to those albums as well as eazy's duz it, nikkaz4life and 100 miles runnin' are what played a huge part in makin' those classics

he is by far the best ghostwriter, ever

had the d.o.c. been able to crank out at least 3 more albums of nothin' but great songs, he'd be up there with rakim, whom i consider to the greatest

And some of those beats off the chronic would've definitely been on doc's solo albums

well i look at it like this... you change one thing, everythin changes else changes. kinda like that movie the butterfly effect

so had d.o.c. not got in that accident, who knows... maybe his voice would've influenced dr. dre's production to go in another direction. but it would've been very interestin' to hear him over those chronic beats if dr. dre would've still gone in that direction

Only weak song on NOCDIB was that heavy metal bullshiit...the rest of it was legendary. And Doggystyle was Doggystyle. Can't go wrong with either. I'll go with the D.O.C.

I take Snoop. Both great but DOC didnt age as well as Doggystyle

Yeah, it may be an arbitrary function of my age but the doc album is like two or three years behind that invisible line of time where most stuff before it sound dated a bit...a lot of the tracks have a really pronounced PE influence to them kinda, with the noisy production and doc's chuck d'ish shouty flow...the gfunk production and silky smooth laid back flow on doggystyle just come off as more timeless to me

Exactly.

I'm gonna take Doggystyle as well... not to discredit D.O.C. at all but those years in between the two albums - hip-hop changed a bit to a point where D.O.C. sounds more dated than it really should.

From an era stand point 198x-91 is one form of "quality" for lack of a better term; you could group those albums fairly. 92-95/6 is another era of hip-hop where I feel the albums are fairly comparable, etc.

So basically D.O.C. vs. Doggystyle is a slightly unfair comparison IMO era wise... both still bangers, same coast, same producer - but Doggystyle takes it.
The growth is just obvious... where D.O.C. could've went if his album came out two years later.

Of course that's not fair to say... but progression is progression
