Why did you tag me in your troll post, I would prefer not to read it.

I never even said that anyway. All I said was I got my headphones out of a storage shed to listen to it on them

No one needs "Big Mel's" approval, this is the highest rated new album in probably the history of Metacritic and the most universally praised album among the people I have ever seen. Nothing will be 100% loved, so thats fine that you aren't big into it. Why didn't you just post this in the big thread instead?

Do you like the 3 songs I've called wack a few posts up? You went ham for this album. This isn't at all a troll thread. I'm offended you've insinuated that.

'Till it's done tutu' is crack.

i feel like cats anoint for the wrong reasons. like do YOU also see why 'tutu' is one of the better tunes?

thread was done in haste. I'm very protective of soul. i do like the album. last is ABSOLUTELY the jam.
For somebody that claims to be protective of soul you haven't put forward anything here that resembles a stance on it. Are you sure you understand the tradition the album is working in, what its analogues are? Problem as you say is you made this thread in haste so even if I would see where you're coming from you haven't even repped it.

It is a troll thread because you are trying to elicit extreme responses by strongly arguing against popular opinion. Whether you are being sincere is kind of irrelevant, because you could have just posted this in the big thread if you weren't trolling. Also, calling it 3.5 at best is a joke when there is not a single critic in any major publication who has given it less than a 4. So you should probably just accept that you are missing the charm and keep it moving.

I went ham for this album out of no personal bias towards the artist or genre. Brown Sugar was special to me but I hadn't listened to Voodoo in well over a decade, hadn't anticipated a new D'Angelo record in a decade, hadn't kept up with this newest touring news and leaked songs, and didn't even really do a double take when I saw he was releasing an album. I just kinda said 'oh, its been 14 years? Weird'. Until 'Sugah Daddy' dropped, that is, then I got excited. I went ham for the album because it is top quality music and it marks a significant shift in the potential direction that the genre will move into the future. Sugah Daddy ended up being one of the weakest tracks on the album!

As far as your 3 listed songs go, The Door is my least favorite song on the album but I never had considered skipping it because it is still good. Back To The Future 2 didn't need to be on the album simply because its a reprise, but there are other classic albums that use reprise so I'm not really gonna fault it for that. The actual music that is being reprised is amazing, how could anyone try and hate on part 2 when the same music is present in part 1? Either hate on both or hate on neither. Betray My Heart is a fantastic song, no need to say more. In my opinion, every single song is worthy of best track on the album status other than Sugah Daddy, BTF pt 2, and The Door. Pretty amazing that 9/12 songs contend for the best spot.

I really am starting to like the album. But I'm vehemently against sweeping bestowments. Betray my heart sux.

It's not that great an album. I love the last song. you have @Adam3000 saying one must listen to it on $1000 dollar headphones. Voodoo wasn't that good either. This album IS better than Voodoo, IMO.

my favorite argument is when soulless, bumperhead blacks accuse people who don't worship D as being too white to get it. Thats my fav excuse.

When you call my name
When you love me gently
When you're walking near me
Doo doo wah I'm in really love with you, I'm in really love with you

[CHORUS]
When you look at me
I open up instantly
I fall in love so quickly
Doo doo wah I'm in really love with you, doo doo wah I'm in really love with you
I'm in really love with you

[BRIDGE]
All night beside you I'd lay
I love you deep when you come to my bed
Doo doo wah, I'm in really love with you
Ooh wah, I'm in really love with you

When you touch me there
When you make me tingle
When our nectars mingle
I'm in really love with you, I'm in really love
I'm not an easy man, to overstand, you feel me
But girl your patient with me
Doo doo wah, I'm in really love with you, I'm in really love with you

[CHORUS]
All night I wish for you here
Lay your head beside my hip
Doo doo wah, I'm in really love with you
I'm in really love with you

Doo doo wah, I'm in really love with you

I'm in really love with you

Oh how I love the little things you do
I'm in really love with you
