It was also explained in season one

He can see outlines and shyt, but not actual people and objects entirely. He can't see details of shyt

Blind people's other senses become heightened. Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder blind as fukk but they still made incredible music despite their handicap. Daredevil is a comic book hero so it makes sense that his other senses would be incredibly heightened by the loss of his sight.

He wanted to fight crime so he trained to use his other senses more efficiently.
