I too slept on A.I. for years but I have awakened. Progress is being made exponentially. A little more than a year ago it was inconceivable that people would be able to generate amazing images based on text input. Now we're creating videos. It isn't too hard to forsee mini films being made by A.I. by the end of the year. Its important to remember that A.I. is currently the worse it will ever be. It will only get more powerful from here.

I do agree there is a lot of hype around A.I. right now and some of the same crypto scammers are using A.I. as a means to come up with new scams and schemes. But its important to seperate that from the real progress being made in the field.

And yes, A.I. will undoubtedly be used for unethical purposes. That's why its important for everyone to be politically active and vote for people who actually understand the significance of this new technology and will push for regulations that ensure ethical use.

It is already being used for unethical purposes and has been for over a decade. The current technology has been around for a while, at least in terms of capability.

The reason why some AI services like ChatGPT are “freely” available to the public is mainly for the data collection needed to further develop their large language models to get a competitive advantage over the competition. Add in mass surveillance on top of that, the DOD aren’t fools.

In addition to that there’s an incredibly massive PR and advertising push from billionaires and venture capital.
