Guy isn't the least recognizable GL. That title goes to Simon Baz or Sojourner "Jo" Mullein.

Also, giving more recognition to lesser-known characters is literally James Gunn's specialty.

Further, there's going to be the DCU introduction of John Stewart & Hal Jordan at the beginning of next year with the Lanterns show.
Even if it is his specialty I don't think it's a good idea to set off a universe. See his Suicide Squad movie and Creature Commandos. Good movie and show but didn't garner a lot of mainstream interest.
That's even worse, you are splitting the audience with so many versions. None will stick out as definitive.

The DCU is starting off with Superman. One of DC's most famous and iconic characters. Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific are side characters in the film.

Creature Commandos, sure, but that's an animated show. That has less reach than live-action stuff (particularly movies).

James Gunn's Suicide Squad movie led to John Cena's Peacemaker show, which got good ratings and mostly positive reviews. A highly anticipated season 2 of that show is coming out in August of this year.

Suicide Squad was released during the pandemic and Creature Commandos is an animated show on a streaming platform.

Uh thanks. I am saying I don't think the choices for side characters is optimum.
I said it was a good movie but the box office left a lot to be desired for the studio.

Why are they not "optimum"?

COVID partially affected the box office of The Suicide Squad. Also, the DCEU was already in its dying stages.

Like I said there are more recognizable heroes that would garner interest outside of comic book fans. Even a couple more recognizable GLs.
Just saying his quirky choices may be enjoyable to die hards but it's no way to garner mainstream interest.

I had heard of none of them Guardian niccas except Warlock, Gunn would have been better off making a Nova movie

OK, but that's just your opinion.

Also, "more recognizable heroes" aren't needed in a Superman film.
