Junkhead is one, if not my favorite non hiphop songs ever. It is an unadulterated, un apologetic diolague on layne's life as a straight up junkie, and he doesnt even feel bad. In fact hes saying if you opened your mind you would be too...'and it aint so bad..'

The guy was socially in the shadow of cobain and vedder, but lyrically he was light years ahead of them. I do business with the guy who makes pearl jams basses and worked on AiC's during their peak...pretty much said when sober they were awesome, but it was so rare; they were straight up junkies and its taking their lives 1 by 1.

Heroin is a motherfukker and the toll it took on that era of music is unreal.

Cobain you mean?

I'm not a fan of Eddie Vedder at all. Never was. :pacspit: (to eddie, not you)
If anything Layne was on a higher plain, by far.

My favorite by them (him):

Great song.

I always thought Alice in Chains and Soundgarden were the best grunge bands.

Nirvana is much different than Soundgarden and actually grunge.
Soundgarden was like pop metal and Pearl Jam more like pop grunge. That's how I see it.

Most of Soundgarden's discography is pretty far from pop. Maybe the last 2 albums.

Grunge was really more of a movement than a sub-genre in my eyes. None of the big 4 were all that similar musically, but their attitudes and presentation were a lot alike.

Agreed. AiC is musically closer to metallica than those guys because of how heavy their sound is. But they got nothing to do with them in spirit...at all lol.

Soundgarden is NOT grunge.. its a pop form of metal. Even their first albums were more metal, then they went pop metal...they were never grunge.

:childplease:

Except they're universally recognized as such.

"The last thing we want to make is another grunge or metal record." - Kim Thayil commenting on the new Soundgarden album.

Whatever you say though, sugar clit.

I just think of Soundgarden as Hard Rock, same with Pearl Jam :ehh:

Grunge to me are dudes like Mudhoney with the more pronounced Stooges influence in there.

You tried pulling this shyt on sohh.. Stop disrespecting Kurt's memory by acting like Staley's death in 2002 at a time when Aic was no longer relevant (hadn't been for years) was a "2pac level loss" for anybody but yourself

And this is in no way me saying Nirvana > Aic because I don't believe that at all but I'm certain 90% of this board couldn't name one Alice In Chains song, everyone remembers where they were when they heard Cobain died

I dont remember ever making this thread....? I am not here to bury kurt cobain...but people hype up his skills when lyrically staley was better and sonically they might have been as well.
