Some of the comments in here are disgusting. I hope some of yall saying this was an appropriate sentence weren't the same ones saying that those girls in DC who carjacked that man and ended up killing him should be buried under the jail:hhh:

Again, what are you basing this on? It certainly isn’t actual precedence.

Experience. 22 years is a lot of time, no way the slice that. However, in the realm of a murder charge, that's a sweet ass deal, at least in my jurisdiction. A deal that he got from the Judge, prosecutor's were asking for 30.

Wasn't he get 2nd degree murder that like 40 years in prison?
Apparently, the max he could have been sentenced would be 15 years, and that's based on guidelines and his lack of a prior criminal record. The Judge ruled in favor of the prosecution on something called an "upward departure" and that opened him up to a more severe sentence where the max is theoretically 40 years. He got double what he would have likely gotten before the Judge's ruling - 22 1/2 years.

I am happy he got the hammer, but let’s be real, he’s only gonna do about 11 years, plus the time already served (I think a year)

That 22.5 is the max, and it’s harsher than normal.

If you want to move the goal post to the minimum he will need to serve, you need to compare the minimum sentences given to others guilty of these crimes in order to deem it “light”.

This wasn’t “light” by any objective metric.

You know how the Coli is breh. Ain’t nobody trying to serve a 22 year sentence. It’s not light at all. I would seriously consider committing that if I had to serve a stint that long.

Cite the cases. Everything I read before the sentencing said 12.5 years was a “normal” sentence given Chauvin’s criminal record.
