He had a smart and knowledgeable legal team that knew he would not win a case like this. Rose is the one who actually pushed for a trial to prove his innocence, so his legal team may have told him to settle knowing what he has on the line here. Either way Rose's rep is already damaged, and he is at risk of losing that Adidas contract.

This is the same judge that when Rose's lawyers complained about there either not being any or not being enough Black jurors essentially told them "Tough luck".
