It's not a ghostwriter if people are credited on the album, I think that's where the disconnect comes from.

Nah. Sauce Money is one of the most notorious ghost writers in history and he was credited on "I'll Be Missing You". Nobody tripped because #1 it was Puff, we already knew he had ghost writers, and #2 everyone knew who Sauce Money was.

If all it takes to be credited on a track then there wouldn't be a problem with Drake. Because Hush is credited as a writer on half his discography. The problem is #1 nobody knew Drake had ghostwriters, and #2 nobody knew who Hush (A. Palman) was. Or QM for that matter.

From my understanding ghost writing is like a hook thing right? A rapper gets a hook from another rapper or writer and pretty much lays their own verse (hopefully). When I brought up that other rappers like Kevin Gates had known songwriters everybody acted like it's common knowledge. So is the issue that it's Drake or that rappers are doing it at all?

Nah. Ghostwriting is somebody else writes your shyt. Some people split hairs over how much "help" is considered bad. Or if it's a group co-writing a song vs some guy you hired to give you verses.

Ghostwriting in hip-hop in and of itself isn't a problem. Eazy-E point blank told people Cube was writing his raps. Puff went the same route. Fans were :manny: over it.

The problem with Drake is, his own camp claimed ghostwriting was bad, and you shouldn't need help with your bars. Drake's producer 40 in 2012:

Noah '40' Shebib: Recording Drake's 'Headlines'

In hip-hop, you must write your own raps. If someone else were to write them for you, you'd have no credibility whatsoever, and you'd be out of the window immediately.

How do you say some shyt like that, and your man got multiple reference tracks? How do you say some shyt like that, and Hush got writing credit on most of your songs?

If Drake came out the gate like Puffy, this is a non-issue.

Diddy never hid the fact that he uses writers, and has also never claimed to be the greatest rapper living

I feel you, but I guess I'm just indifferent now. I honestly believed everybody wrote their own shyt hook and all til as recent as like 2 or 3 years ago and dudes like Puff and Birdman just had ppl write shyt for them and that was like a running joke. But when I found out it was like a everybody thing it just turned into wrestling and I learned to appreciate the characters for nothing more than that.

I also still believe Drake deserves to be considered one of the greats if for nothing else than So Far Gone. Wayne said "me and Drizzy both wrote on Detox" like 6 years ago so he had to be 100% on his own wave at least one point in time. Idk, I just like him. I understand why nikkas dont but to me if you go thru as many "rap beefs" as he did and still running the game he should be commended.

EDIT: but this has also made me gain so much more respect for cats that write their own shyt, Andre 3k is super goat to me for that much alone

It's not an everybody thing. The vast majority of rappers ain't hiring people to write/co-write all their songs and hiding it. You can look at any album's credits and clear that up in about 2 seconds.

Like I said, the only reason the Drake shyt went on as long as it did is because nobody knew who A. Palman was. A thread on KTT 5 years ago was like :dahell: "why is A. Palman on damn near every Drake song?" when Drake was the only rapper. People eventually figured out it was Hush.

TAKE CARE LINER NOTES CONTROVERSY: WHO IS A. PALMAN?! « Kanye West Forum

As far as the "Detox" shyt :manny: Nickeleus F. said he was helping Drake write hooks and raps on his first mix tape. That was in 2007. So I dunno.
