Humans try to explain existence with many comparisons to things we can grasp/understand. This whole simulation shyt is only become so popular theory because we conceptualized and realized simulation and artificial intelligence. We're not yet, unless this whole reality has been fabricated. I don't think the game reveals itself to you as a game, while playing it. That leads to people "rejecting" the game.
I think we're headed to a period where we live in simulated environments, where it could be described as a "game". However, we may just burn everything down in a religious, authoritarian, fascist, luddite fervor before it gets to that point.

Again you are using the limits of our understanding to define the unknown. Your most relevant example is video games...you think life is like some video game but you wouldn't think that if we didn't invent video games. Do you not understand that? That is the limitations of your understanding. That doesn't mean life is as limited as your ability to comprehend it. If people like you were in charge of society we would be worshipping shamans and human gods.
