Not gonna lie.....the next 3 years is going to have a big impact on his eventual legacy
I think his legacy is already being impacted. He's 12 years in...

In a 3-year stretch, he won two MVPs and a championship. During those 3 years and at the end of it ('21), it was being written that we were about to see something generational and historic on the way. That he was the guy who was about to carry The League's new era...

Then Jokic happened, who was already elite during Giannis' run---->but no one expected Jokic to be as great as he is. Effectively usurping Giannis as the greatest player of the era...

So now the discourse for Giannis hasn't turned negative, but it's certainly simmered down. He's still, to me, the second greatest player of this era. But he's not really a generational player, barring some unforeseen run of championship contention. The Culture throws the word "generational" out alot, but for myself, I measure that in how often your team is a contender with you as a driving force....

Magic was generational. So was Bird. So is Steph, so was Mike, etc. Jokic is the most offensively gifted center ever but I'm not convinced of his "generational" worthiness, to date he's only had two deep playoff runs, he's not some super young guy anymore, either. Tatum is a unique case of a guy who has never played on a bad team, thus never being tasked with the responsibilities of shouldering the burdens the other two have, and there was plenty of past discussion on trading him or his wingman----->nobody talks about trading absolute generational talents...

This year is the best Tatum has looked and a few years like this he can be deserving of that kind of label, but as I said he has been surround by institutional excellence his entire career. He's gotta prove it's him and not the (organizational) system...

My point is, Giannis has fallen into the pack with these guys, whereas, 4-6 years ago, he was viewed as the leader of the new school. So his legacy is already affected. The good news for him is of he never does anymore high level winning, he'll always be regarded with the Dirk/Garnett/Robinson level of esteem...
