Well I kind of was using "being the wokest" as shorthand for "being the loudest about being woke" , since I kind of think it's a silly word.

We can definitely agree that someone whose truly focused on these issues couldn't be disingenuous.

I still don't agree that the most outspoken people promoting issues are always the most disingenuous, since I think there's a whole population of people who just tear down ideas and are still the most disingenuous.
Do you mean people tearing down ideas of social justice and equity? If they're openly working against those causes they aren't disingenuous. They're shyt heads, but not disingenuous.

Regarding "loudest" being "silly", take Nike, for example. They spend 39 billion dollars advertising their products with "social values" being a hallmark of their marketing strategy. Are they more genuine in their dedication to social progress than these organizations ? Which of those have most people ever even heard of?

I just don't think they are more disingenuous than.... Let's pick an easy one, Lockhead Martin, who as far as I know doesnt spend a dime on advertising their social values.

What is Lockhead Martin being disingenuous about, then?

Here's their about us page:
About Us

And here's their "values" :

Our Values
  • Do What's Right
  • Respect Others
  • Perform With Excellence

This is a company that spends millions of dollars lobbying our government to invade other countries.
Right, but even you said they dont spend a dime on communicating those values.
Also, those values are pretty thin if you're making the claim that they're trying to appeal to their market with woke ideology....which is the point of this thread.

The implicate of the article in the OP is that the NBA is claiming to be woke.
The article clearly draws a distinction between the players and owners while making its labor argument.

I dont think the NBA players have anything to do with the commercials.

Further, I don't think anyone suggests a confederacy of billionaire owners consider themselves woke, but instead are just profiting off of allowing their players to speak their mind without creating landmines like the NFL.

As for the commercials....they reinforce that this is all a money making venture. The connection their also seems pretty clear.

So the people you're talking about are the owners or the players?

I'm talking about what the article is talking about...the owners.
Who said anything about the players?

The article is a piece criticizing NBA players for not leveraging their labor position for more sweeping changes.

Did you get confused and think this was a BLM piece?

All of this points to the essential feature of NBA politics: It is premised on the NBA and NBPA agreeing on stuff. Instead of seeing itself as an antagonistic relationship with the league, the union works to broker consensus, often in ways that primarily serve the narrow interests of its biggest stars. The restart was treated as an inevitability that needed to be sold to the players; worse, labor advocacy was subtly depicted as an impediment to players being able to exercise their “voice” on social justice issues. What the situation really called for was a more radical union—one that could have launched a very different understanding of labor in professional sports.

lol, you're so eager to find gotcha moments.
Are you confusing the union for the individual players?
If you are, you must never have been in a union before.

I hate these articles. The players are not going to have a bigger platform than the bubble games and it isn't even gonna last that long. They also don't know what any of these players is doing behind the scenes.

LeBron helped start that voting initiative and the charity paying off Florida felon's fines so they can vote. I'm sure plenty of other guys have started things as well that don't know about.

These guys are also being held up to this gold standard like they're elected officials who can actually legislate new laws. Give me a fukking break.

This is disingenuous garbage.

Even if you didn't read the article, the title makes it pretty clear. Either way, this sums it up:

How The NBA Makes Money: The Second-Largest Sport in the Country
The NBA itself has never claimed to be "woke". It has been attributed that label because it is the only league that has allowed the players self-expression whether for (LeBron) or against (Kyrie).
