The divide on Sting as an ALL TIME performer on this board, is huge...

What type of 'player' is the man they call Sting?

Its weird some of you all think he's an all time great...some think he's an all time great babyface but not a draw...some think he's fukking garbage and takes down every fed he touches...some think he is a hall of famer...

there are wildly varying opinions on sting. what is YOURS?

For PURE BABYFACES ONLY, i have to ask...is he better than:

Tier zero:
Hogan - no
Andre - no
Rock - no
Dusty - no
Ricky Steamboat - no
Bret Hart - no
Savage - no
HBK - no
Daniel Bryan - no
Sgt Slaughter - no
Eddie - no
Cena - arguably no, probably equal
Rey - likely yes
Hacksaw Jim Duggan - yes

so, i'm honestly ranking him somewhere between Cena and Rey Mysterio Jr. If I add all time heels and tweeners, he plummets down that list.

Sting was never the #1 draw of a top company. NWA and WCW were doing awful with him as the top baby face, with the only exception being the great buildup leading to starcade 97...........where he didn't wrestle for almost a year and didn't talk for over a year....that is QUITE telling.

He doesn't suck, at all, in the ring or otherwise but lets be real, daniel bryan for example has already surpassed everything sting has ever done...Brock has had a better career. One could even say BOOKER T if you include wcw AND wwe work has had as good or better a career.

If he never went to TNA, all of this hatred for him wouldn't exist. If he made a WWE run sometime shortly after WCW closed, dudes on here would be bytching constantly that he's not already in the HOF. It's really his choice of promotions that have shaped the way some people feel about him, I think.

i really don't think his tna work influenced my or many others' opinion of him...because we didn't see him there anyway. For me his end of WCW run was real garbage, and his best runs ever he was getting destroyed by hulkamania in WWF, and by austin in WWF

thats not even on the table in this thread :heh:

I brought it up because I think that's what's influencing the unpopular opinion of him. I'd go as far as saying Sting's TNA run has ruined his legacy in a lot of people's eyes. Fortunately for me, I didn't see any of it :heh:

I agree his final WCW run was not good. He gave up in '99. He's not an A+ guy, but I like him and think he's a legend. He's in the Cobratron Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame. :yeshrug:

id put him way over savage, dusty, ricky, bryan, slaughter, and especially eddie :skip:

maybe you didnt watch when he was around, but he was THE man up until Goldberg showed up on WCW. They ruined his run with the way he beat Hogan after that long feud

i voted B+. everything i watched with him was good. i dont watch tna tho :merchant:
For me, his fueds vs GOOD HEELS such as hogan and cactus jack were good, and him getting kicked out of the horseman was classic,

but thats kind of my point

he had fueds against HOGAN, Vader, and the four horsemen at their hottest...he was always carried by TIER ZERO heels...and THEY were the draw

i'm sure you would :heh:

he didn't DO ANYTHING during that run besides look with a blank stair and hit people with a bat. like I said, the fact that crow sting was his hottest run ever is quite telling
