How many of you live there?

I want to move but every cost of living chart I see has it as one of the highest in the country. Is it really that expensive to live there?

Yeah it's crazy out here as far as COL but its also a nice spot for networking (ie. hustling). Take the good with the bad.

Looks like I may have to suck it up and make the jump.

What do you all think is the minimum someone should make before coming out there?

It's a great area to be in, lots of opportunity, can be crazy though, traffic sucks, high cost of living, but lots of diversity and I don't think I'd live anywhere else to be honest.

Depending on where you want to be in the 3 areas, I think that $50K and up and you can live fairly comfortable, but $75K will definitely provide that cushion.

Cost of living is high but you get paid more so it compensates :ld:. Traffic is predictable (i.e. rush hours) and youre in an economic bubble because the governments jobs create an umbrella of sorts here. Restaurants are decent, and you got all 4 seasons. If youre coming from the south dont expect southern hospitality here, it dies somewhere around norfolk.

Breh, if you make around 40 to 60K you straight. All depends on what kinda shyt you like, if you a party animal try to get a spot in the city not too far from downtown. If you like a more laid back style then try Mo County or Arlington. It's expensive here but like others have said, you get compensated in terms of pay so the difference is made.

If you're making around 50k, you'll live a lot more comfortable with a roommate(s). You'll save a lot and have more extra money. You can make good money here, but it's probably not worth it. Decent is a very expensive place to live, if you're from the south you're not going to like it here long. Once you see how much fronting and c00ning goes on around here. A lot of people look well of, but there up to there neck in debt. Stress the fukk out. I'm leaving soon. I don't see how you could have kids here without having 150k household income. A lot of fine educated sistas with no wife characteristics. A lot single career chicks in there 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s. You can be a playa here forever.

Like I always say, 50k down south > 90k DMV

If you do come, don't acquire too much stuff, bcuz you're going to want to leave.

I work for the federal government, which is why I want to go there. It'll better my chances at moving up. I live in Fayettenam, NC but have only been here since March...and I don't like it. I lived in Indy before then.

I'll be making a little above 50k, at least for the first year. I don't expect my income to be at that level for long if I make the jump. I look at the job openings, and there are just so many opportunities there. I should've never moved to Fayettenam.
