I think we need to make a distinction here.

First off, this was an invaded part of the world...and when people are threatened they turn to the most extreme positions to protect their autonomy.

In places where they're fairly homogenous, unlike the USA, you're going to get fascism. We're talking actual nation-states like France, Italy, Germany, etc...and in this case, Ukraine. So facing the threat of Russian invasion and an affront to their autonomy, they get SUPER right-wing to defend their identity.

This is hard to understand from a western viewpoint because we're trained to view everyone under the "diversity" view...but this is very much the minority of every country in the world. Not that many places are diverse, so when we talk about places that are "facist" we have to understand that they don't know anything else. I'm not saying you have to agree with it, but you have to understand the implications of whats being addressed here.
