yes, it is much harder for artists to make money on album sales - but for music fans, its not the worst thing.
now, more than ever, low-key artists can earn a fanbase without the help of corporate music labels. through use of social media, and music being easily available to everyone online, artists can bypass the big music labels and radio stations, and gain a fanbase based on word of mouth.
ideally, that means artists can get big based on quality of music instead of record label association - which is good for music fans. music fans more directly impact who is the next big thing, instead of the select few at the record labels.
with less album sales money, artist will have to rely on shows more than ever. they might have to work harder. but still, if their music is good enough to earn a solid fanbase, then they can earn plenty of money by selling out shows from place to place. people today will spend a lot of money on seeing bands at shows, and that won't go away.
the dream is talking about 3000 people being effected and such, people working at record labels, music videos, etc....well too bad - times change and careers become obsolete. i, for one, would be pretty happy if artists spend less on hiring writers and are more required to write the damn music themselves. i also would be kind of happy if less money were invested in music videos - something that doesn't enhance the music itself. those people who were making big bucks at record labels manufacturing hits (copy and pasting writer A here with producer B here, and singer C here, etc..) are the reason music has become more watered down than ever. filtering that shyt out is good for music fans.
