The purpose of immigrating to the US from a poorer country is ultimately to make more money and have a better life for your family, there's nothing wrong with being proud of where you're from but it makes more senss to assimilate to make life easier. Not knowing the language of the country you're in likely limits the type of jobs you can work.

Because you are not living in your country. You don't have to forget your culture, but you SHOULD assimilate if you are going to live here. Imagine if you went to one of said countries talking shyt about I'm American and wearing your flag, etc. I could imagine it wouldn't go well.
