it's early in the morning..and i have work in less than 4 hours and i can't sleep x.x:sadcam:

so i decide to contribute to this thread instead.:obama:

I think it's to note that we (or any womena of color for that matter) also face a problem of being racially fetishized. it's like nearly everyone expect us black women to have big asses. what's even worse is we could have all the success, education, etc in the world...But it seem society reduces us to out bodies..as if we're not human. as if we're just hypersexualized drones.:childplease:

and if that's not bad enough, more stereotypes follow us around. i.e. if you're speaking english "correctly" (whatever the flying fukk they mean by that shyt) you get called a "white girl" or get the "you sound /speak so white" :what: and that irks the everlasting fukk out of me. And it doesn't help that some people in our black community contribute to this shyt.

I would also like to say we need to define our self-worth by - well, our own selves and not by anyone else. and not to just be with anyone who gives our attention of the day because some of our esteem is low.

the rest of the world is so quick to criticize tho
There comes a point when we can't help them anymore. They have to want to help themselves. Enabling their behavior is cancerous to our community.

I support this movement :obama: we need our women to be backbones and we also need to learn to be part of the solution of uplifting them rather than propping the stereotype that most of society has against them. A lot of us black men are guilty of this and it makes me sick at times.
Women are already the backbone and thats the problem now. We have to be strong in the face of adversity but no one is strong for us. Thats one of the points i see in this thread. We have to be the backbone for our families and kids but when we're breaking down its no one there to be our backbone.

I'm working with my sister to start a non profit for young women. We want to provide mentorship and support plus resources that they may not know about. If no one looks out for us...who will?

I definitely see your point but that doesn't mean a man shouldn't be the woman's backbone as well. I look at it as iron sharpens iron. You have to be the support for each other.
