Yes, but we're talking pre-internet and social media era. Now, not only can the audience participate, but they can consume the content whenever they want. The labels realized this and have made a push to re-do what they've done in the past with other white hip hop acts, but this time seal the deal. The key to this whitewashing is personalization and immediate consumption via the internet and all of the platforms it has made available. Back then you didn't have Britney Spears collabing with Petey Pablo.....but now you have Miley Cyrus crossing back and forth between Hip Hop and Pop, spreading the popularity and bits and pieces of the culture to the young white female audience. That has never happened before.

What about Christina Aguilera collabing with rappers? Or Gwen Stefani?

Come on man. White pop singers collabing with rappers isn't anything new. It's been happening for a while.

just wait till macklemore drops his sophomore later this year
iggy already has a no.1 record for months now!!!
the process was slow a decade or so ago, but it has been sped up
phase 1 complete - onto next phase!!!

Vanilla Ice's first album went diamond. All of his albums after that went copper.

Iggy's actual album only sold 50k week one and probably won't even go gold. She has those two hits because they're carried by the pop singers she collaborated with. Maybe I'll "worry" when Iggy has a hit song without relying on a pop singer to carry it.

Y'all nikkas get so paranoid any time a white rapper gets buzz. We'll be fine. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but whatever.

You forgot about the part where I mentioned pre social media and immediate consumption

How so? Macklemore is already out of the spotlight and Asher Roth is nonexistent at this point. :yeshrug:

Macklemore might not be buzzing at the moment but when he drops another project you bet his people that back him will market him back into the spotlight & doing crazy numbers. That Iggy chick is buzzing right now with a #1 single beating out Minaj. Also I never said they've taken over. I said it's changing & it's a slow one that's gaining steam. Mac Miller, Action Bronson, & Yelawolf all have their fan base & are getting bigger. I don't know how you can't see it

This isnt true

Part of the reason why Drill music blew up is because people are still infatuated with hood culture

Drill music blew up?

Where? Show me the charts and sales so I can reference what you're talking about?

We will have to wait and see for that one.

As for the rest other than Iggy none of the rest are standing out from the sea of rappers. :yeshrug:

Nelly was one of the first Hip Hop/Pop hybrids of that time....he damn near sang himself.

Juicy J and Miley Cyrus is a totally different dynamic
So did Bone. I'm not saying Nelly wasn't a joke back then - but he was unquestionably hip hop. Same as Ja.

what does that have to do with the original argument?
You made the claim that Miley was the first time a pop star had collaborated with a hip hop artist.
The Bone thing was in response to you saying Nelly wasn't hip hop b/c he sings.

Asher Roth, Yelawolf, Machine Gun Kelly, and Sam Adams have all come up in this social media era and all have flopped bad. No one legit cares about these guys anymore.

Miley Cyrus isn't doing anything that Debbie Harry did with Blondie/Fab Five Freddy. Or Madonna trying to dab in it hanging around with Big Daddy Kane.

All this stuff is cycles, really.

relax, hip hop will still be ours. everytime a white rapper gets their 15 minutes of fame, ya'll freak out that white rappers are going to takeover the industry. and soon enough, those white rappers fizz out and everyone forgets about them. in the past 20-30 years there have only been 2 white hip hop acts (Beasties and Em) who have had long term success
