the nyc bias was simply a bias for competence & skill

it didn't matter if you were from the 5 boroughs or elsewhere at that point

looking back it's funny that kast spoke up while receiving a fukking source award(receiving recognition from a east coast staple of culture)

the confusion was southern artists seemed to want everyone accepted regardless of merit

they took it as a comment on where they were from when it wasn't that

nyc recognized great music regardless of region

the push for success being tied to region really became more pronounced after nyc was no longer the cultural north.star being followed

the display of competence & skill became detrimental to success

artists had to conform to a regional sound to find success

the culture was homogenized & simplified

it allowed anyone to take a seat at the table & here we are today..........
