Exactly, as stupid as it sounds, the whole show is built around getting Roman over and making him look strong. Triple H winning Rumble, Lesnar ending streak/being built up, keeping out Bryan, not turning Ambrose heel, not putting faces like AJ Styles up against him (we all know they won't), have him face Sheamus/Rusev 100 times over, have 3 unbelievable rumble matches in a row, win 3 titles in 4 months, have guys like Heyman, Bryan, Henry etc all put him over and say he's best ever (Heyman seriously said he's better than Rock, Austin, Hogan etc) etc.

WWE purposely keeping out a major star just because it might hurt their golden boy is a joke, it's like the NBA keeping out Curry cause he overshadows James

The narrative these neckbeards use "punishing for being over" is maybe the most brain dead argument I've ever heard. Vince brought back Eric Bischoff, the same guy who tried to put him out of business, just because he saw he could make money on an angle

That was purely to feed his ego. Even Steph said on the McMahon DVD Vince hired Eric just so he could say that his main competitor ended up working for him.

This is a really tricky situation. I'm probably one of the few who think both sides to the argument in here are close to 100% right.

There's definitely some WWE bs going on. Bryan was never expected to get as big as he did, and they're using a legit (or pseudo-legit for the doubters) health excuse from a PR perspective to justify not bringing him back. They can't grant his release, cause they know he's not retiring and know how much he's worth. Their whole medical staff seems to be failing with a third to half of their roster being out of action (obviously some are beyond anyone's control).

On the other hand, the fans are not going to settle for Bryan in a reduced role. By all means, he's a main eventer and earned every bit of the love he's getting. If he's brought back and not in a top role, especially when the current backed top guy (Roman) is marginally over at best, the fans are going to take over the show just like in past years. Maybe even worse. Right now he's out of sight and kind of out of mind with the casual fans, but if they bring him back there is no good enough solution that doesn't involve him chasing and getting the big belt. However, it's kind of hard to trust a guy with the ball who has had major injuries sideline him the last two times you gave him the ball or put him in a major role. Add in the supposed concussion history and I'm personally concerned for his safety with his high tempo style. I don't think they really give a fukk about Bryan, but don't want the responsibility associated with another possible injury.

Unfortunately the middle of the road solution that needs to happen (him returning to action in a reduced role) wouldn't fully satisfy the fans and would eventually dissatisfy the WWE.

For Bryan's sake, IF he's fully ready to go as his other doctors say and his body can take it, I hope they bring him back as a main eventer or he walks out/ gets his freedom papers.
