The Wire easily, it's not even close. The intricacy, depth and multi layered storyline is unparalleled. I first watched it nearly 15 years ago and to this day there's still things others have pointed out in the comment section that have me like :ohhh:.

Just restarted the first season. I agree with all of this.

Can't co-sign the Wire being better than Sopranos, only 'cause a lot of the street talk on The Wire was improvised. You know damn well them writers didn't write all that street talk.

You would be incorrect about that. They actually were very strict about the actors following the dialogue in the script.
Despite its naturalism, none of the dialogue was improvised. According to Wendell Pierce (who played Detective William “Bunk” Moreland), “they were on us about the words, man. Every piece is important. ‘All the pieces matter’. That was the mantra.”
There was no improvisation on set. The scripts were followed verbatim, and any possible change was discussed with David Simon first.
I'd recommend any fan of the Wire to read this:

Gives insight into the entire series. Pretty much all of these cops, drug dealers, politicians, stevedores, addicts etc. are based on a mixture of real people. All the stories are based on a mixture of real life events.
