Lilo & Stitch Memorializes Capt. Pete Mitchell & IMF Team Leader Ethan Hunt: Memorial Day Weekend Box Office Results (May 23-26)

Fun fact: The original Lilo & Stitch released in 2002 on the same weekend as Tom Cruise's Minority Report (my personal favorite Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg movie). Minority Report ended up opening at number 1 with $35.6M, juuussst edging out Lilo & Stitch's $35.2M. It took 23 years, but Lilo & Stitch has had its revenge against Tom.

As this site is want to do from time to time, it has seen fit to delet my entire post, which was extremely detailed with all of the records broken by Lilo & Stitch. Suffice to say, I'm not retyping all that shyt. :yeshrug:

So let's just say that Lilo & Stitch's $183M is the best Memorial Day opening, retiring Top Gun: Maverick's $160.5M. And its $145.5M 3-day opening is the third best opening for a Disney live action remake. It's still not the best opening this year l, though. That honor goes to A Minecraft Movie's $162.7M. Incredibly, Lilo & Stitch passed Snow White's $87.2M total after its second day when it had amassed $102.5M. :mjlol:

clap-stitch.gif

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning made $77.5M. That's the 17th best Memorial Day opening and beats Mission: Impossible ll's $70.8M. Its $64M 3-day is the best opening in the Mission: Impossible franchise. It's 4-day total has it pacing ahead of Dead Reckoning's 5-day $78.4M. This franchise has these openings down to a science.:ehh: That's great to hear, considering that the movie costs upwards of $400M. Fortunately for Paramount, they're only on the hook for half of that.

I had to cancel my tickets for today cuz of the family cookout. They were for the IMAX experience. Fortunately, it's locked up the IMAX screens for 3 weeks, which is what Oppenheimer did 2 years ago, so I'll catch it later. Maybe I'll run to the theater like Ethan. :wow:

Oh, and Final Destination: Bloodlines has made $94.1M which is the best in franchise history. It's also the second highest grossing horror movie of the year, doubling up Nosferatu's $47.4M.

With $174M, Thunderbolts* is the MCU'S fourth lowest grossing movie. It's ahead of Eternals' $164.8M and behind Captain America: The First Avenger's $176.6M. However, after their first 25 days, it still trails Brave New World's $177.2M total.

And Sinners became the 11th highest grossing R-rated movie of all time with $258.8M, which passed The Hangover Part ll's $254.4M. It's also the 3rd highest grossing horror movie. It trails only IT's $328.8M and Jaws' $273.6M. :whew:

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
It’s wild how Stitch’s popularity has blown up in the last few years. Lilo & Stitch did well at the box office back in 2002, but it wasn’t pulling Aladdin or Lion King numbers. He’s always had a loyal fanbase, but in the past 5 or 6 years, he’s been everywhere—and honestly, he might be out-merching Mickey and Minnie at this point.

10. No one took they date this movie I guess they didn't like the leads, that redhead who ran up the hill should have been the lead.

9. Elizabeth Olsen: Alicia Vikander cant tell me shyt, the end

8. We discussed this already, the beginning of the movie is a meet cute and then bottom falls out after the twist.

7. Pulling the stars from White Lotus and 1923 didn't work, I think they just hoping that their chemistry would carry the second act, it didn't. The director said he was trying to remake "Red Eye" into a plausible date movie, but I think those stars had better chemistry even Though Rachel Mcadams made a career out of being a stank bytch and Cillian Murphy is actually trying to kill her.

6. This movie does what some other movies do, cast a hot Indian as the object of affection, but she don't bring shyt but a cute face and being color coordinated

5. Movie looks good, sound good, but is a National Geographic movie.

4. Besides, the stupid ghost storyline, you got to war, you're supposed to die or not come byke. I appreciate ppl service and sacrifice in warfare (we'll get to that) but I don't want to watch a movie about it.

3. They should have destroyed that ship.

2. Actual warfare is boring, oh, you need more?

All the camera shoot from inside that big ass house, you can barely see who they fighting. Plus, dude telling someone else to get the gear HE left made me want to jump thru the TV and beat his ass myself.

1. Not as smart or slick or sexy as it though it was

The Final Reckoning's Match is Lit but there's no Switch for Hunt & Stitch: Weekend Box Office Results (May 31-Jun. 1)

Lilo & Stitch dominated once again with $61.8M. For some context - the original Lilo & Stitch made $62.4M ... after 8 days. :whew: The remake had made $284.2M so far, which is almost double the original's $145.7M and already more than its $274.7 global total. Its $618.7M worldwide running total is already 3x Snow White's pitiful $205.5M. :dead:

It was a repeat of last weekend with Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning finishing in 2nd place with $27.2M. That -57.5% hold was ever so slightly better than Lilo & Stitch's -57.7%. And it's a much better showing than Dead Reckoning's $19.3M second weekend, which was a MCU-esque 64.6% drop. And that was with The Final Reckoning playing in 618 fewer theaters. Thank God for IMAX, which is how I saw it on Sunday, helping to add to the total. The Final Reckoning has totaled $125.1M after 11 days - 11% ahead of Dead Reckoning's $112.6M. That's great but it might not be enough to get it to $200M domestically. At its current pace, it'll finish at $191.5M, which would only be the 5th best in M:I franchise history. :lolbron: We'll see how well it holds up against Ballerina next weekend.

Mister, that's not good enough. There will be no melon bar for you and your ... team.

Karate Kid: Legends opened with $20.3M. That was nearly two-thirds less than The Karate Kid's $55.6M opening in 2010. :mindblown: Cobra Kai is a hit on Netflix so you would've thought a better result was in the cards.

looking-at-you-mr-han.gif

Final Destination: Bloodlines is up to $113.1M thanks to a $10.9M weekend. That running total is more than Final Destination 4 and 5's combined $108.9M final total. :whew: It's the 7th highest grossing movie releases this year.

A24's Bring Her Back opened with $7M, which was enough to secure a top five finish. I might have to check this out since it's a horror movie that got a high B+ cinemascore. Oh, and it's from the brothers Philippou, who were last seen on the silver screen with Talk to Me, which opened with $10.4M in 2023.

Cobra Kai S6 had a very emotional and satisfying conclusion, so I wonder if a lot of people got their Karate Kid fix that way. Along with the new film, not really tied into the series. Will check it out, when it hits Netflix.
