It appears he was West Indies. But, much props to him! Especially during that time -- 98% of Black people in America was in the South were enslaved and then post-emancipation terrorism in the South.

crazy how a paper in the 1800s can easily differirate between ADOS and non-ADOS
:ohhh:

remember, every ethnic group in the world does this, but we're not allowed to

Of course they knew. Most Black people were in the South - during and after enslavement.

What's crazy is they list him as "White" --then call him the "Prince of Darkness" -- and say he was rather "dark."

How is he ADOS when he was born in Haiti?

He wasn't. He was from the West Indies. He immigrated in as a Free Person of Color -- but was also listed as "White" on his immigration papers. So, who knows. It sounds like he passed as White at times. Or because he wasn't a "negro" -- he was treated better -- as he was married to a White woman he immigrated over with.

Unlike many black millionaires who succeeded him, Hamilton avoided contact with other African Americans and maintained his business dealings exclusively with whites. For many years, however, his best friend was Benjamin Day, the founder of the New York Sun newspaper.

Hamilton’s much younger wife, née Eliza Morris, who was white bore him eight children. One of the Hamilton family homes was a rural 270-acre estate in New Jersey that featured a 10-bedroom house, ballroom and terrace, two trout streams, a fish pond, and quail.

Reno Omokri explains why Nigerian men marry older white women
Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 8:25 AM by Tunde Ososanya

Reno Omokri shared his thoughts on interracial marriage, saying Nigerian love is becoming too expensive

According to him, some Nigerian men are going for older white women because of the marriage list their prospective in-laws give them

The former presidential aide is of the opinion that marrying an older white woman is not all about securing a green card

Former presidential aide and author Reno Omokri has taken to Twitter to explain why some Nigerian men go for older white women instead of younger ladies from their country. Omokri said securing a green card is not always the motive behind the men's decision to marry older white women. According to him, the marriage list some Nigerian women give their suitors is one of the factors chasing men away from them.

Omokri says men marry older white women because Nigerian love is too expensive

Above the fray.
Jeremiah Hamilton?

Name doesn't sound French. He was born in Haiti after the Revolution, but the gens de couleur were almost exclusively the descendants of French planters and enslaved women. And usually carried the surname.

The name points to him descending from free Black father from an English speaking country. And a Haitian mother perhaps.

I've known of French Caribbean people with names that appeared to be Francicized version of Hamilton before, but even that is rare.
