But why

What was the purpose... To go catch Wells

Future Barry probably knows all about paradoxes and doesn't want present Barry to create one. Future Barry knows that it's not worth it, no matter how much you miss your mom.

That's why that moment was the most tearjerkiest to me. Future Barry misses his mom too, shyt he's been mourning her loss for 100+ more years. But Future Barry still knows that it's too big of a risk to take. That he HAS to carry that pain with him for the good of the world.
