Does anybody know the story behind how he got the show?

I feel like telling NBC you want to give a young rapper a prime time sitcom series in the early 90's must've been a hard sell.

I thought that same thing for years.

I think that's why the first couple seasons had so much social commentary. They didn't want it to be some c00nery buffoonery shyt, especially on the same network as Cosby and Different World.
