Def Jam didn't put one drop of promo into Jeezy's album except a single (I Do) just like Game (with Celebration) yet he did 233k first week.

So you wanna run that by us again?

Young Jeezy had nearly 2 years worth of promo from Def Jam:

1st official single- Lose My Mind w/ an accompanying video. The song peaked in the 30's on the Hot 100

Then there was "All White Evertything", "Jizzle", "Ballin" w/ Wayne, "Shake Life", "F.A.M.E." w/ T.I., and then "I Do". In addition, he also had "Super Freak" and the joint w/ Ne-Yo after the album dropped. Most of those songs had videos too.

I downloaded Adele's album far before it dropped.
I don't think the answer is easy, cause sales are down in all genres. You can look at soul music and point at Adele and at the same time point at Alicia Keys who did half a million with her last album and the same numbers as Wiz this time. You can't look at certain artists and think they represent a whole genre.

We might as well say look at C4, hiphop is doing fine.

Hiphop has so many different types of artists, same goes for rock, r&b too if you compare it to for example country who has 10 big. But one thing is official, the music supply in hiphop is large but the album supply is not that's 1 of the big reasons to why the overall sales of hiphop is declining. Cause cats are finding out that they are making the same bread, with less work by dropping free music. That's why fukkbirds like Kreyshawn and Trinidad James are handed million dollar deals before they even know shyt about them.

Agrees with this. I don't think people realize that there's only a handful of artists doing numbers period, no matter the genre. Artists outside of Hip Hop have had historical second week drop offs this year. Popular artists outside of Hip Hop have struggled to reach gold and platinum even with monster singles.

I just listened to "the games" CD. This dude stole an ocean floor full of styles and flows, I don't understand the new day fan or rapper no shame at all. This nikka is the Richard Little(google that name) of rap. No creativity, call the Game Xerox, he is a straight up copy.

The Game CD, should come with a disclaimer, I'm impersonating your favorite rappers to get some shine, and oh by the way how was that 16?

Why are people neglecting the fact that he basically did this independently, I thought it was a mixtape and shyt until a certain legend dropped it on here. I wonder what he would do if he actually did this WITH interscope. It seems like his buzz has grown since Red Album at least in my circle.

Thats kinda standard for the average Hip-Hop name now.

Yeah you have young exceptions (J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller but they have massive college fanbases dont forget and then you have the handful of mainstream guys like YMCB, Kanye/Jay, Em) but nowadays anywhere between 50k-130k is how you sell.

Listen..I'm not too sure 50 Cent is gonna smash it either when his album comes out. Keep in mind BISD did 150k first week and I dont think he's exactly gone strength to strength in the hearts and minds of music listerners (He'll probably be anywhere between Jeezy and Nas last numbers on some 140-200k shyt cause of the name)

First of all if you'd ever seen me post on here, you would not that I'm not a particularly big fan of Game and a big fan of Jeezys. While Jeezy wasn't promoted like certain other rappers in the game. He fukking had a movie with Samuel Jackson, he was at the very least a FEATURED artist on Def Jams site, he was featured on MTVs site and these other corporations, singles promoted in different markets and shyt like that. Compare this to any of his previous albums and compare tm103 to one of jeezys previous. Jeezy is known to grind via street promotion, street teams and shyt like that. I didn't see a big change in his promo. Also small things like interscope pop artists like Maroon 5 just disappearing from the album and instead dropping joints with 50.

Idk perhaps game spent his whole budget on features.
