Basically that. I've given Ross the same criticismAgreed. It's Game's rapping and the production/beats/songwriting that make this album. There's very little there in terms of lyrics and that's always been Game's weakness. He's a great MC, his rhymes is crazy (word play/punches) but he just doesn't have any depth in his lyrics. Maybe cus he doesn't have much to say about himself. That's why when he's given a subject to rap about (Sean Bell, dissing G-Unit, etc. ) the lyrics are dope.
If Game had Nas's lyricism, he'd be top 25 rappers of all time. Without it, he's still top 50, but not top of the top.
But even Ross seems to have branched out just a little bit more with the rhymes in his recent work than before.
