And he has LONG maintained for years that his mentor in rap – the freestyle guru known as Juice – is the REAL composer of the song “Summertime” by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (he even claimed to have video evidence to support his position):

HOWEVER…..in a recent video chat with Will Smith, Jazzy Jeff and Charlie Mack, Will makes the following DEFINITIVE claims:
1. HE wrote the song in its entirety….not anyone else.
2. He was DELIBERATELY trying to sound like Rakim.
3. It was the last song to be added to the album, which had already been completed, and they gave him the track right as he was walking out the door, and he said “It’s the only record I’ve ever written ONE TIME through and didn’t change anything, I wrote it in one sitting”.
(Unfortunately, I don’t know how to flag videos to go directly to the spot at issue, so just fast forward to the 6:30 mark to hear his side of the story):
You heard it for yourself…..Will not only said HE wrote it, but neither Jeff NOR Charlie Mack (or even Snoop) had anything to say which would have refuted that (by the way, the ENTIRE interview with those three (Will/Jeff/Charlie) was over two hours long but was TRULY entertaining, I’d highly recommend it for viewing purposes: )
