It's true for a lot of the low tier teams. The top tier squads still run a decent amount of set plays. I think D'Antoni's Phoenix Suns is the reason for a decent amount of the simplification you're talking about. They just ran high PnR's with shooters at the other positions. It's one of the reason's why the stretch bigs are such a big deal and also a reason why everything looks so simple out there.

I'm not trying to compare one era with another because I saw some horrendous ball played in the 90's and early 2000's. I know how ugly the game has been at times...all I'm saying is currently the league is stale and the lack of different identities and different play styles is a result of every damn team running high PNR a thousand times a game and chucking 3's. Shyt is wack to me now. I've been gravitating back to the college game (UNC-UK was the best game I've seen in years, college or pro) just to see some actual sets being run and not having to watch a big flash out to the perimeter to set a pick every cotdamn time down the floor.

I had to stop right there.

NBA is so much more complex...tactical..and better than college bball that I feel you might have been drinking when you wrote this

The PnR is creating a cookie cutter look to the game. You can watch the Pelicans then watch the Rockets and feel a similar style of play albeit the player's skill sets are different.

The big 3 Miami Heat had the best PnR defense in this era but it required a super lengthy and athletic forward like Bosh to eliminate the space PnR creates. The only othe answer is these guards manning up and fighting over screens or the NBA implementing some rule changes.

They need to ban all zone defenses and bring back hand checking. Then we'd see more motion and more respect for the big men.
They need to do the opposite. Let teams play whatever kind of fukking defense they want, they're all professionals.

Maybe years ago when NBA teams were running actual half court sets that involved basic movement and off ball screens...that shyt is almost extinct in today's game. Most college coaches I've watched haven't dramatically dumbed down their offenses to basic PNR and high ball screens...at least the games I've checked out this season. Niccas bringing up ISO ball and the sludge ball of the late 90's...that shyt was awful to watch too...just like this current shyt is. High PNR and a million 3's a game...y'all can have that shyt.
