Dude is the greatest smoke n mirrors act ever. Nothing about his trajectory or hype makes sense, nor can it be linked to something tangible. It's entirely hearsay

it goes to show you that 'real hip hop' fans are no smarter than mainstream turnups. In fact, they're practically brothers. For both groups, it has little to do with quality music.

I almost prefer a turnup because the pretentiousness is less/non-existent.

If you don't rock with Jay Elec that's cool. But breh has 50+ songs out how is their nothing tangible?
@SirBiatch not only do you think Jay Elec makes trash music, but you're equating it to 'turn up' music?

I think both turn up music and weak 'real hip hop' tracks suffer from the same weak crowd mentality. It's all the same hypebeast shyt at the end of the day.
How is jay electronica hype beast weak real hip hop? For example 'So What You Sayin' or 'Dealing'? Or even 'Road To Perdition' ?

I'm Hard Like D-Block Readin The Book Of Enoch...
I hear you in regards to the mystique, everyone nowadays want to show you what they do daily lol. What you've just said could be the case but, because rap fans are so fickle these days, don't you think he might miss the window for the album (music) to make the impact you've quoted?

i don't know, maybe he really doesn't want that level of fame because he obviously has a well rounded/versatile look at fame now from both music and just being with a blood member of the Rothschilds, who hasn't really done shyt in life to gain her fortune/any notoriety she may have in the UK(can thy UK brovas who may be reading this give us a short synopsis how well known she twas in the tabloids before&when she twas with Jay Elect por favor)and obviously things in between like being around Hov&having him as a "boss"&being around other artists of various levels of fame,so i'm sure he's studied/analyzed his position and might not want that unless it stems from his own music, and not just his surroundings..

if there's anything that seems ultra transparent about Jay is his humility, that school of hard knocks humble where you undergo many trials in the jects&life as a nomad/homeless,yet having a solid soulful woman to raise him like his grandmother, who he seems to love a great deal, not to go off topic but thy twas basically raised by both my nana's so i can relate somewhat&intuitively read the same inner-g in Jay,they give you manners&elegance and won't let the hood be an excuse, but they are trill&understanding in the fact that you're gonna be tougher for the simple fact you're raised in the grime..

and he studied under the Gods&Earths,he prolly knows off top that most aren't really gonna understand him on some level,so he just does him&lives his bars and knows the initiated will support him off top&inspires&teaches the 85 to at least look into what he raps about, then study..

also, for what its worth,a lot of cats say he sounds like&bites off Priest,(you can tell KP is an influence, but i hear bits of other emcees in him too)but in my opinion where Jay really excels is taking complex subjects like supreme math, advanced spirituality, and alternative history and spits them from the point of a street ninja who steady observes his surroundings,be it the 3rd Ward or chilling at festivals in Nepal(strength to them)..he's making the game adapt to him rather then adapting to the game&may Allah bless him for it..:blessed:

@Ego Noir hahaha word, these cats must not know how these devils roll,Whitney Houston,Eazy-E,Micheal Jackson,Biggie, etc ad nauseam..but maybe they realize he really is the Black G-d,in'shallah...:ohhh::krs::blessed:

mediocre shyt. All of them sound like some Killah Priest shyt.

except KP never had a baby with Badu, had a cool homeless wanderer image and hung out with Nas AND Jigga. But one's got way more coverage than the other.

You do the math.

Whats mediocre? The beat? The lyrics? The flow?

So do you think killah priest is wack as well? Remember dog you called this 'weak real hip hop' sounds like you just don't like it :yeshrug: and would be in the 10%

everything. Weak beat, weak voice, dull lyrics that have no depth, wit or creativity (but pretend to have them).

yeah I gotta keep it real - I'm not a Killah Priest fan at all. His verse on 4th Chamber is probably the only thing by him I've ever liked.

I think he's dope, but he only released 2 actual songs. The rest is some demo shyt that he basically disowned. He's the rap version of Jai Paul, two songs, a leaked demo and hype hype hype hype hype.

Hov heard the album, Quest geeked over the album, Just said it's classic, Puff too. Dude is more known for being an enigma... Moving in powerful circles, while still being on some vagabond shyt. It's all smoke n mirrors and not about the music

I ain't mad at Jay, he's doing his thing whatever that is... But I'm tired of fans buying into this horse shyt and propping him as some sort of Rap Messiah... He hasn't done anything musically

They count if you want them to. But iirc, Jay never intended for them to be released that way and never consented to that as a "release", it was some fan made shyt, correct me if I'm wrong but his only two releases to the public are Act 1 and Exhibit C

nikka if I got over 100 files on my phone that clearly say jay electronica, or say featuring jay electronica, then that means he dropped shyt. and that gives me enough evidence from what i've heard from him for me to consider him among the best i have ever heard.
