So you think some random jew who doesn't cover the Steelers and writes national articles knows what's going on in the Steelers facility?

By all accounts Dobbs has had an outstanding training camp. He was given all this playing time against starters because the Steelers liked what they saw from him in camp and love his potential. But go ahead and think a few rookie mistakes in his first 2 games will wipe away what has been a very strong camp.

For the record, Cam Newton only completed 42% of his passes as a rookie in preseason. Carolina Panthers: Grading Cam Newton's Preseason Performance

I remember cacs were happy thinking he was gonna be a bust. Then the regular season started and he threw for 4000 yards on 60% passing.

Preseason is preseason for a reason. Its typically not very real. Dak was kinda of an outlier last year. So now people are thinking the preseason is actually a preview of the regular season when it aint close to being true.

Dobbs will light it up in the regular season like 2011 Cam.

Cam has talent, size and strength so far beyond Dobbs that the comparision is beyond silly.

I mean thats evident by Cam being a #1 overall pick and Dobbs being a reach in the 4th round.

It was very telling the other night that the Steelers stopped sucking the exact moment Dobbs left the game.

Yeah cause the Steelers kept James Conner in the 4th quarter against 4th stringers and he rushed for 70 yards in that one quarter. I'm sure that had something to do with it. The same James Conner that was dropping passes right and left during the first 3 quarters.

Football is a game of momentum. Even in the regular season we see teams plays like crap for 3 quarters then turn it on. It has nothing to do with who left the field cause typically it's the same guys who played bad to start that ended up winning the game in the end with big plays.

Props to James Conner for turning the game around after a poor start.

You have cited preseason performance as to why Dobbs is already a bust. You never limited your criticism to where he was drafted or his physical tools. You keep citing numbers from barely 6 quarters of action.

I showed you Cam Newton's preseason stats. 42% passing is pretty abysmal. Worse than Dobbs 50ish% passing.

Maybe you forgot cause you a cac but I remember there were a lot of media voices saying Cam would be a bust. And they celebrated his preseason struggles in 2011 as a preview of what the regular season would look like. Then the season started and Cam had back to back 400 yard passing games and looked like a HOFer. And cacs like you had to shut the fukk up.

Preseason does not equal the regular season. Cam Newton was pretty clear evidence of that.

Btw cam also had 0 INTs and had 86 yards rushing with a TD. Even with his low completion % that preseason his performance blows what we've seen from Dobbs out of the water

Cam Newton: Game Logs at NFL.com

The point here isn't that Dobbs is having a better preseason or similar preseason to Cam. Or that he'll have a better/similar regular season as a rookie. I'm not comparing Dobbs and Cam. I'm comparing preseason stats to regular season stats. They typically don't coincide.

The main point here is that Cam Newton went from a shaky preseason where he completed only 42% of his passes to having arguably the greatest rookie season of all-time by a QB at that time and completing 60% of his passes. Dak Prescott has probably surpassed him in terms of greatest rookie season ever by a QB. But that year was pretty special for Cam. He was the first rookie to throw for 4000 yards and he also had back to back 400 yard passing games in his first 2 starts.

My point is simply that preseason struggles don't necessarily translate to the regular season. Just as preseason success doesn't typically translate to the regular season.

Dobbs is averaging very close to 1 INT a quarter.

Thats historically bad. Very few players at any level of football have ever approached such a low level of play.

I'm probably a year too early on Dobbs. 2017 will only be an appetizer for what Josh Dobbs will be. 2018 is the year he actually becomes a superstar in the NFL.

Now this doesn't have much to do with his preseason performance or lack thereof. Its moreso on the fact that the truly great NFL QBs don't actually have great years as rookies. We all know Peyton threw a record number of INTs as a rookie. Tom Brady spent most of his rookie year on the bench. Aaron Rodgers sat for 3 years. Its typically guys who end up being busts (like RG3 and Vince Young) or guys who underachieve (like Cam Newton) that have incredible rookie years. Just as I was overzealous when I wrongly predicted Tennessee would win the national title in 2016 when 2017 was really the year. I am similarly overzealous in predicting 2017 would be the year Dobbs becomes a superstar in the NFL when 2018 is really the year.

Here's my new outlook for Dobbs:

  • 2017 - Big Ben will start most of the season. However, he will get hurt sometime near the end of the season. Dobbs will take over and start the final few weeks. His performance will be shaky at first as they lose a couple of games but he'll find some rhythm toward the end of the season. Pittsburgh will sneak into the playoffs. Dobbs will be the starting QB. They'll win the wild card round but lose in the AFC Divisional round on the road in New England. However, in the loss Dobbs will play great and will give fans hope that he can be the QB of the future.

  • 2018 - Big Ben will come back as the starter. However, he will get hurt early on. Dobbs will take over as the starter for the rest of the year and take off. Steelers will go 15-1, the offense will be historically good, and Dobbs will have an MVP caliber season. They will be favorites to win the Super Bowl.

I already know im right, stupid.

Nah. You're only right that 2017 might not be the year.

Greatness takes time. Peyton Manning threw a record number of INTs as a rookie. Tom Brady was 3rd string as a rookie. Aaron Rodgers sat on the bench for 3 years.

It would probably be a bad sign for Dobbs career if he was amazing right off the bat. Typically it's busts like RG3 and Vince Young that kill it from the start. Or guys with mostly disappointing careers like Cam Newton. The true greats take a year or so to become great.

2017 is a building year for Dobbs. 2018 is the year he blows up. That is when he will win MVP and the super bowl.
