Kanye brought this on himself. For me, I'm all for progression. The thing with Kanye is that the focus isn't even the music anymore. It's all hype and fluff and a vehicle for his ego. Kanye the artist left the building a long time ago. I'm perfectly fine with that, it's just laughable to see Kanye compared to Prince, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and other greats just because writers have hyped him to high Heaven. The same writers said that he doesn't have any iconic songs. And in that regard I agree. Kanye is bigger than his music. I can enjoy the old stuff and appreciate some of the new music he puts out. I'm not looking for a sequel to any of his old material. It's just that now, there's plenty of other artists that I'd rather check for than a new Kanye album.

We don't need a sequel to his older shyt tho. Ye is talented enough to keep it fresh and still make dope albums. He probably will again.....its just that TLOP was average and all shock value shyt he doing lately is weak. He's too deep in this Kardashian lifestyle and trying to impress Parisian cac designers.

and how does Kanye not have any iconic songs???

I disagree, sure Kanye isn't spitting like its Otis or Gorgeous, but his voice is strong, has plenty out qoutables, and it fits well with the beats and song structure.
The Life of Pablo was just weak voiced, weak flowed, and way more disorganized and what not.

Coming after mbdtf, it is a let down:yeshrug:

Strongly co-sign the bolded.

By iconic, I'm talking about "What's Going On", "Billie Jean", "Higher Ground", "Purple Rain" iconic. Songs that define the times, yet connect with generations who weren't even alive when they were released.

You all just want him to regress to music you're comfortable with :camby:
You refuse to acknowledge his accomplishments to the point where you actually ignore reality :camby:
Newsflash, Kanye has never fallen off, each time you guys claim that all it means is he isn't doing soul sample work anymore.
How can someone with a constant growing fanbase and two of the most critically and fan acclaimed albums of the decade have fallen off?
That's not falling off, that's success.
And Sure the life of Pablo isn't as good of an album as the rest of his discography, but why is jay or nas allowed to put out multiple trash or meh albums and still get praised while Kanye puts me out an album with ultra light beams, fsmh one and twos, famous's, waves, fmls, and fades, and suddenly he's the equivalent of soulja boy:mindblown:
:camby:

im probably a bigger stan and appreciator of all things kanye more than anyone on here dude. hes an artist who takes what he does very seriously and is a fukkin icon. will go down in history as one of the best and most influential ARTISTS (not even a rapper... an artist) of our generation. but its undeniable that hes not creating his best stuff right now, has done better, and is capable of doing better in the future. and i hope he does.

as a huge stan i dont want to see him regress back to another era; my favorite thing about him was he levelled up to a new place creatively every album and came with a totally different sound and approach. but hes beaten this whole fake deep haute couture aesthetic into the ground and has made some seriously mediocre music since hes been with Kim K and thats facts.

Every album hes made, he has surrounded himself with different groups (producers, rappers, visual artists, muses, etc...) of people during the writing/recording at that particular time, who shaped the overall sound of the album and the aesthetics of the visuals that follow. its been different and exciting and interesting every time. except this specific time its been boring and predictable. if you look who has been around him the past couple years - people like the Kardashians, the fukkin Jenner teenagers, Ian Connor, Theopolis London - its no surprise that the result of that energy was mediocre and boring. you lie down with dogs, you get fleas. you have a team of mediocre people around you who are all hype and limited substance, and these are the people you are drawing inspiration from? artistically? you're going to get over hyped, easily disposble, boring results

This is the problem right here....he needs to get the fukk away from trying to cater to the fashion/art elite and keep it real!

He acts as if he can play so many sides of the fence and not fall off!

That's an entirely different era, Kanye pretty much has whatever equivalents you can get to that now.
Plus it's impossible for you are myself to go and listen to Thriller without the knowledge that it's an iconic highly acclaimed track which will color out perception of it.
