I think this does get released one way or another, my guess is they might throw this with TLOU 2 remastered or maybe TLOU 3. All the complaints from Bungie were about revenue and not gameplay based.

I'm not big on multiplayer online games anyhow and I barely played the multiplayer for Part 1.
I'd rather them focus on single player games.

There are no good multiplayer games, so with that said fukk Naughty Dogg. All these mufukkas had to do was release the original multiplayer with update graphics, some new maps, and a few new weapons.
