so what games are releasing in the immediate future for the Xbox one that aren't remakes? Last i seen, halo 2 hd is on many people's radar(mines included then again I'm not a fanboy that can't even enjoy games on a console that isn't my preferred one.)

you have to consider that Tomb Raider was already very cheap in price for the PC version which arguably is on par or better looking than the version that they're trying to sell to new gen console owners for full price. Tlou hasn't been seen with better visuals.

If tomb raider didn't exist on pc, the reception towards the definitive edition would've been much greater. also pricing is important, i think a lot of folks would bite at $39.99. Also this is naughty dog we're talking about here, their quality in games are pretty high standard so i doubt it'd just be a mere resolution upgrade.
