I just don't see any scenario were they could've had this TV version of Ellie be the ninja assassin she is in the game breh. They would've had to come up with a brand new storyline of her getting military trained in Jackson after her 16th birthday or some shyt
At the end of the day, they were stuck in a weird predicament of being more realistic about someone like Ellie going on a revenge mission in a warzone in Seattle and still sticking with the main plot points and encounters from the game. They could never find the right balance and they didn't have enough time/episodes to let shyt develop either.
There were a lot of options to make such a short season flow better while still following the same plot and main encounters/happenings of the games, but they took the riskiest one and paid for it, imo.
They showed her training and even had Jesse say she was only 80% of what she could be or some shyt. I think Bella played it well during the part with Nora. And I'm not saying she should be taking down a whole set and sniping dudes with a coke bottle silencer lol. But taking down 2 or 3 people an ep is not crazy for this story.
But yeah they're going with a lot more a grounded approach here but I just don't feel like they've made it mesh with how the game gets you to these points.
The TV show version of Ellie has to be one of the most annoying and unredeemable characters I've ever seen from a "main character." She's a burden on literally every character she interacts with. It's a stark difference from Game Ellie.
I'm just glad they're going to pivot to Abby next season because I don't know if I could continue watching this garbage ass version of Ellie.

For TV Ellie to mesh with video game Ellie, they probably would've had to drop the Dina love story. You can't have Ellie being a little psycho while at the same time having a teenage love affair with quirky dialogue and humor
there's just not enough TV minutes for them to have her be funny + vulnerable + in love + mourning + dead set on revenge and come off well, imo.In the game it works because you have way more time with her and there's way more leeway for a character to show that many dimensions than in a TV show setting. As a player, we are more forgiving of our MC than as a TV watcher, imo.
I remember people trying to dunk on me for saying that Ellie gonna need to be recasted for season 2. She looked too young and 2 years wasn't going to change that.

A recast might've worked better for some actions scenes but I don't think there's an actress out there that could pull off the impossible task of having like 4 different emotions every other scene while having to be funny, charming and menacing in a warzone filled with deviants and fukked up people in just 3 and a half episodes
even Isabela Merced, who's by far this season's MVP wouldn't have been able to pull off "demonic Ellie" in a season structured and written like this one.

They're really missing the Ellie training with Joel stuff from the game. Those training scenes with Jessie goes against things a bit. The way the plot moves just doesn't work with how she can get magically bailed out of every scenario right now. And yet they had time to add inconsequential scenes like the scars hanging ellie but still letting her go
Watching ellie scold jessie in that building was like watching a child talk to their parent. Between that and her lisp coming through its just too much to take serious. It's not her fault but it's just bad casting and writing. She's annoying, especially after once again putting jessie at risk with trying to save this random despite the fact she just had a talk with jessie about him needing to get back home for his kid now. I at no point am even rooting for her. I wanted jessie to leave her ass there.
I can give a pass to a lot, like iv said…they’re trying to put 15 hours worth of gameplay into 6-7 hours worth of TV
Sorry to be one of the annoying “game was better” people…
But with the last few eps outside of the flashback episode it has been very hard to ignore that The game is written infinitely better
And was the scene of Ellie getting taken by the scars between taking the boat to the ferris wheel just to pad the episode out by an extra 5 minutes or something? ?
