I mean, it makes sense Abby ain't gonna be manhandling infected like the game so it really isn't necessary to have her be Brock Lesnar in the TV show

She has the same body type as Ellie in the game. It's irrelevant if her face looks different. That has nothing to do with her character. But Abby's size is a key part of her character. No point pretending it isn't.
There's no limit to what a game can do.
Finding a female actress that can put on that size and actually act would've been difficult.. They clearly care more about performance here..
Truthfully I think they actually made a mistake in the game having Ellie grow so much after 14 but I get it..

Most of cast so far (season 1 & 2) look nothing like the game versions of their respective characters.
The show runners have made it repeatedly known that they don't care about how much the actors match the features of the characters in the game. They care more about their acting and the specific story they want to tell.
