why the last verse? its already established hes fantasizing by the first chorus. the whole song is a fantasy
its not fair to judge it by modern day standards. love and dating was different 50 years ago! what comes across as "creepy" today was written as an innocent fantasy in 1971. this was before incels and daily/weekly mass shootings. the only ones i can recall before this song came out are kent state and the charles whitman shooting.
i do think a song like it could happen today, but it would invite a ton of criticism and stupid clickbait thinkpieces
